Social and economic inequality and power imbalances have driven inequitable access to wealth, welfare, land and natural resources across Trinidad and Tobago. Moreso the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted systemic failures in how society is structured and how the most vulnerable are protected. These inequalities are further compounded by the impacts of ecosystem loss and degradation as well as climate change on communities, livelihoods and available resources. ??? Problem statement outlining environmental injustice --- ## Desired outcomes .panelset.sideways[ .panel[.panel-name[Short term] Improved access to environmental information for CSOs and vulnerable groups - Using the FOIA for the benefit of the wider public. ] .panel[.panel-name[Medium term] Increased engagement of CSOs in environmental decision-making processes - thereby improving policy responsiveness to the needs of vulnerable groups. ] .panel[.panel-name[Long term] Improved environmental governance with better transparency, accountability, inclusive decision-making, and more informed and just public policy protecting the right to a healthy environment. ] ] --- ## Project logic CSOs are empowered with improved knowledge and capacity to utilise policy and legal mechanisms for access to information, participation and justice, can foster transparency, accountability and inclusive environmental governance in T&T. ??? next Overall objective The project's overall objective is to enhance the capacity of civil society in Trinidad and Tobago to advocate for and support vulnerable groups to access environmental information, participate in decision-making processes and seek justice to protect citizens’ right to a healthy environment. --- ## Objectives .panelset.sideways[ .panel[.panel-name[FOIA] #### CSOs can effectively utilise the Freedom of Information Act (1999) to access information on environmental matters - thereby enhancing transparency and accountability. ] .panel[.panel-name[PARTICIPATE <br> & ADVOCATE] #### CSOs may participate in policy and advocate for inclusive environmental governance. ] .panel[.panel-name[SEEK JUSTICE] #### CSOs may seek justice through the mechanisms of the Environmental Commission. ] .panel[.panel-name[PROMOTE] #### Promote and foster an institutional framework with partnerships which better enable CSOs to serve both as independent actors and collaborators in sustainable development. ] ] --- ## ACTIVITIES: Component A .panelset.sideways.right-side[ .panel[.panel-name[ MOBILISING & MAPPING] 1.
